SALT LAKE CITY --- The Utah volleyball team received its second preseason ranking today when it was picked 13th overall in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason coaches poll. The Utes were picked 11th in an earlier poll conducted by Volleyball Magazine. The 2001 team finished the season ranked No. 15 after making their first ever Sweet 16 appearance.
Utah was the highest of three teams from the Mountain West Conference in the poll. The MWC is one of just five conferences nationwide with three or more teams ranked in the Top 25.
The Utes will face seven teams ranked in the preseason Top 25, including defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Stanford. Also on the schedule for Utah is No. 4 Hawaii, No. 6 Arizona, No. 12 Pacific, No. 18 Colorado State, No. 19 Illinois and No. 23 Brigham Young.
Pacific is first up for the Utes, as they host the Tigers opening weekend (Aug. 30-31) in the Utah Classic.
