Former Ute Staci Burt Continues Success

SALT LAKE CITY - Former University of Utah soccer standout, Staci Burt, will compete in the Founders Cup Championship, Aug. 24 at 2:00 p.m. (MT) on the PAX network. Burt, a Salt Lake City Native, was drafted in the eighth round of the 2001 inaugural WUSA draft by the Carolina Courage (59th pick overall).
During her debut season, Burt was one of only four WUSA players to play every minute of every game. She started at the right back position and knocked in two goals, while assisting on four more.
Her stellar 2001 season earned her a call up to the U.S. National Team. She is the first U. soccer player to receive such an invitation. She was also one of 24 players asked to tryout for the squad that represented the U.S. in the 2001 Nike Women's Cup Tournament.
Thus far in 2002, the now-defender Burt is helping the Courage remain on top of the WUSA's leader board.
The success Burt is achieving at the pro level can be partly attributed to her outstanding college career. While at Utah, Burt was a three-time all-conference first team member and a one-time second team member. The Ute forward was a 1999 NSCAA all-west region second team honoree and a SoccerBuzz third team all-west honoree in 1998. She holds the Ute career assists record with 21 and is second in career goals (38) and career points (97).
