SALT LAKE CITY - After opening practice 16 days ago on Aug. 7, the Utah volleyball team will host its first public scrimmage at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Crimson Court. Admission is free.
"The scrimmage is a good dry run for us in terms of getting comfortable with everything," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "It's a good chance for us to get a good gauge and be prepared for the following weekend."
The Utes open the season Friday, Aug. 30, when they host the Utah Classic. Utah will open with New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. On Saturday, Aug. 31, the Utes face Murray State at noon, followed by Pacific at 7:00 p.m.
The Utes are ranked No. 11 and No. 13 in the nation, respectively, in the Volleyball Magazine and USA Today/AVCA preseason polls. In addition, Utah was picked by the Mountain West Conference head coaches as the preseason favorite to win the conference. It marks the first time in the 27-year history of women's volleyball at Utah that the team has received such recognition.
The Utes are coming off their most successful season in school history, during which they won the MWC tournament, went undefeated at home and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
