Sylva Strzinkova grew up in the Czech Republic and is only 22 years old. So it's a little surprising that she lists the Beatles as her favorite musical group.
Obviously she has excellent taste in music, but one of the main reasons Strzinkova grew up listening to the Fab Four from Liverpool was something else. It helped her learn how to speak English.
"I liked the beat, but you could understand the words too," she said. (Thank goodness she didn't choose to listen to an American rap group.)
A few years later, a desire to learn the English language even better brought her to Utah for what she thought would be a year.
Nearly five years later she's still here, where she stars for the No. 10-ranked Utah women's volleyball team. The 6-foot-1 senior outside hitter is one of the main reasons the Utes have become a top 10 team this year with a legitimate shot at improving on last year's Sweet 16 finish.
