ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Utah volleyball team improved to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West Conference play with a 3-0 sweep (30-19, 30-21, 30-12) over New Mexico tonight. The Utes hit for a season-high .512 on the match with just eight errors, and held the Lobos to .088.
"We never gave New Mexico the opportunity to get into the match," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "We got better as the match went on. We played very good volleyball all around."
Sophomore Shelly Sommerfeldt led Utah with 13 kills, five digs, two blocks and one service ace.
Senior All-America candidate Kim Turner finished with 12 kills and three blocks on the match. Junior Lyndsey Henderson added 10 kills.
Junior setter Tracy Neumeier had a career night, finishing with a career-high 43 assists and four aces. "Tracy set very well," Launiere noted.
Senior libero Jackie Morrill notched a match-high 12 digs.
