REVIEWING LAST WEEK:
Utah concluded its 2003 season with a three-game loss to No. 14 Washington in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last Saturday. Utah hit .196 on the match, while the Huskies combined for a .421 hitting percentage. The Utes out-blocked Washington 9-5, but had only 34 kills on the match, while the Huskies had 57.

In the opening round on Friday, Utah upset No. 13 Santa Clara in a thrilling five-game match. After dropping the first two games, the Utes came from behind to win the last three. Utah hit .343 on the match, compared to the .247 of the Broncos. The Utes also out-blocked Santa Clara 9-7 and had seven service aces in the win.

After starting the season 7-6, Utah won 15 of its last 18 matches, with its three losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents.

UTES ENTER TOP 25 FOR FIRST TIME ALL SEASON:
After its 1-1 performance last week in the NCAA Tournament, Utah moved into the USA Today/AVCA Top 25 for the first time all season. The Utes are currently ranked No. 25 in the nation.

SINGLE MATCH RECORDS:
As a team, Utah set the single match record for hitting efficiency on Oct. 3, at New Mexico, when the Utes combined for a .512 hitting percentage. Sophomore Shelly Sommerfeldt set the record for attempts in a five-game match with 69 at Notre Dame on Sept. 13.

SINGLE SEASON RECORDS:
Senior Kim Turner ranks in the top 10 in several single season statistical categories. She finished the season ranked first in hitting percentage (.367), third in kills (490), seventh in block assists (144) and eighth in total blocks (170). Senior Jackie Morrill's 389 digs ranks third all-time.

TURNER IS UTAH'S KILLS, BLOCKS, HITTING PERCENTAGE LEADER:
Senior All-America candidate Kim Turner ended her career at Utah as the all-time leader in kills (1,620), blocks (670), block assists (589) and hitting percentage (.326). She also ranks second in games played (456), third in attempts (3,306) and solo blocks (81) and fourth in matches played (128).

BLOCKING MACHINE:
Kim Turner, the all-time Utah blocks leader, recorded at least one block in 127 of the 128 matches of her career, including 125 straight. The only match in which she didn't record a block was Sept. 2, 2000, against New Hampshire, the third match of her career.

TURNER, MORRILL, SOMMERFELDT NAMED ALL-MWC:
For the second year in a row, Utah volleyball player Kim Turner was named MWC Co-Player of the Year. In addition, senior libero Jackie Morrill was named the conference's Top Libero, while sophomore Shelly Sommerfeldt was named to the 14-member all-conference team. Turner shared the top honor with Colorado State setter Melissa Courtney. Turner is the first four-time all-conference honoree in MWC history. She led the conference in hitting percentage (.434) and points per game (5.61), and ranked second in kills (4.53) and blocks (1.47). Morrill, who leads the Utes in digs, was named the Top Libero at the Utah Classic. In conference play, she ranked second in digs with a 3.53 average. Her 180 digs in MWC matches was the third best in the history of the league. Sommerfeldt ranked seventh in the conference in points per game (4.07) and ninth in kills per game (3.51). She was named to the all-tournament team at the Utah Classic.

TURNER NAMED FIRST-TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT:
Kim Turner, co-captain of the Utah women's volleyball team, was recently named to the Academic All-District VIII Team. Turner garnered first-team honors with a 3.646 GPA as an elementary education major.
