SALT LAKE CITY -- After the best finish in program history and its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance last season, the University of Utah's women's soccer coach Rich Manning has signed what maybe the best recruiting class in school history.
"What a great day this is for Utah women's soccer," says Manning. "We are excited to announce the signing of nine tremendous athletes to National Letters of Intent. These players come from winning youth and high school programs. As a group, they will bring speed, versatility and outstanding character to the team."
The newcomers are comprised of two forwards, one defender, one midfielder, two goalkeepers and three multi-positional players. The group includes one U.S. Youth National Team member and three West Regional Olympic Development Team (ODP) Pool members. The squad also includes eight State Cup Championship members from various club teams.
The Ute soccer team's nine newcomers are: Michelle Deatherage (defender), Tasia Duarte (defender/midfielder), Amanda Feigt (forward), Addie Hawkins (midfielder), Mckenzie Joyner (defender/midfielder/forward), Adele Letro (forward), Ashley Mason (goalkeeper), Melissa Ann Wayman (defender/midfielder) and Kaycie Zimmerman (goalkeeper). Feigt will also compete for the Utah Track and Field team.
"It has been so energizing to find talented players with big dreams who see the University of Utah as a place where those dreams can be realized," Manning says. "Our goal is to become one of the top collegiate soccer programs in the country. Making the NCAA Tournament last season was a positive step in that direction. We have a strong core of returning players. Add this group of freshmen to the mix and we can truly have a competitive environment in which excellence is cultivated and nurtured."
