Launiere Signs Two Volleyball Recruits

SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah women's volleyball coach Beth Launiere today announced that she has received National Letters of Intent from Carlee Kulovitz, a 6-4 middle blocker from Durango, Colo., and Michaela Maixnerova, a 6-0 outside hitter from Prague, Czech Republic.
The team captain at Durango High School as a senior, Kulovitz was named the "Best of the Best" middle blocker in Colorado by the Rocky Mountain News. An all-state selection, she was a first-team all-conference pick and was named her team's MVP.
"Carlee is a big, strong athlete that can jump," Launiere said. "We're very excited about her potential."
As a junior, Kulovitz was an all-state honorable mention and all-conference selection after leading her team in blocks and hitting percentage.
During her sophomore season, Kulovitz was a second-team all-conference honoree. She led the league in blocks.
Kulovitz is a member of the Colorado Corners 18's club team, which won the Rio Grande Festival, the Grand Junction Classic and the Santa Fe Invitational in 2002. Prior to that, she was on the Four Corners All-Stars and the Pagosa Digs.
A member of the National Art Honors Society and a Renaissance student, Kulovitz is the daughter of Rob and Maureen Kulovitz of Durango, Colo.
Maixnerova was named her high school team MVP both in 2001 and 2002, and her 2001 team placed first in the Czech Republic Championships. That same year, her high school team placed 10th in the World Championships in Portugal.
"Michaela has a tremendous amount of experience playing on the top junior club in the Czech Republic," Launiere said. "She should be able to help us immediately because of her experience."
Her club team, Olymp Praha, placed first in the Czech Republic Youth Championships in 2003, and second in both 2002 and 2001.
The daughter of Vlastislav Maixner and Romana Schmidtova, Maixnerova plans to major in international communications.
