Head Coach Rich Manning Releases 2003 Soccer Schedule

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's soccer team will face a challenging task next fall, as Head Coach Rich Manning has released the 2003 fall soccer schedule. Utah, an NCAA participant, will be up against three NSCAA nationally ranked opponents and four NCAA tournament teams from the 2002 season.
"There's no secret to reaching our goal of having a national-caliber program," Manning says. "During the non-conference schedule, we have to go out and face tough challenges in order to improve and to prepare for the Mountain West Conference games."
Utah will have several tough road trips, as they travel to compete against Texas A&M (No. 6), Baylor, Idaho State, Saint Mary's College and conference rival BYU (No. 23). The soccer team will be in College Station, Texas the same weekend the U. football team will face the Aggies. The Ute soccer team will play on Friday, Sept. 5, while the football team competes on Saturday, Sept. 6.
Michigan and Texas A&M were NCAA quarter finalists last fall, while Florida was the 1998 NCAA champions and 2001 semifinalist.
"We have a couple of great trips that will test us," remarks Manning. "It is a special opportunity to head down south and play Texas A&M and Baylor. The Aggies are one of the elite programs in the country and George Van Linder will have his new Baylor team ready to go. Also, the trip to California will be good for us. Saint Mary's took it to us last year and I'm sure they'll be healthier and ready to climb back into the national polls."
Talented opponents highlight the Utes' home schedule such as Michigan (No. 11), Florida and Weber State marks for a great opportunity for fans across the state to come and watch great college soccer at Ute Field. The Utes were nationally ranked throughout last season by the SoccerBuzz.com rankings and this upcoming schedule will give Utah an excellent chance to showcase its talents against the best in the country.
"We're very excited about our home schedule," says Manning. "It will be great for Utah fans to come and see some of the nation's best teams here at Ute Soccer Field. Michigan was an NCAA quarter finalist last season and Florida has one of the most athletic teams you'll ever see. They've been one of the top-five programs in the country over the last several years. It will be a great treat to have them here."
