SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah volleyball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a three-game sweep (30-19, 30-20, 30-21) of Utah Valley State in the second day of the Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic at Crimson Court this afternoon. The Utes hit for .276 on the match and held UVSC to -.028.
"I was really pleased with our focus level," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "We could have come out flat, but we didn't. We were focused, but relaxed."
Senior All-American candidate Kim Turner led Utah with 12 kills, eight digs and six blocks. Sophomore Danielle Leichliter added nine kills on .583 hitting.
Junior setter Tracy Neumeier dished out 21 assists, while senior libero Jackie Morrill led the Utes with nine digs.
Utah dominated game one, building its lead to as many as 15. The Utes hit .448 as a team, compared to the .036 of UVSC. Leichliter led Utah with six kills on six attempts with no errors (1.000 hitting percentage).
After a slow start in game two, Utah pulled away down the stretch, winning 30-20. The Utes hit .269 on the game and out-blocked Utah Valley State 4.5 to 0.
The Utes led throughout the third and final game and won 30-21. Turner had seven kills on .462 hitting and five digs on the game.

The Utes close out the Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic at 7 p.m. tonight when they face the No. 18 Missouri Tigers.
