Soccer Buzz Honors Manning, Four Utes With Region Awards

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's Rich Manning was named the West Region Coach of the Year, while Amber Brower and Amanda Feigt were voted to the 2003 all-West Region team by Soccer Buzz Magazine. Fiegt, Michelle Deatherage and Ashley Mason earned spots on the all-West freshman team.
Forty-six schools comprising the West Region were eligible for Buzz awards, presented since 1996. Awards were decided by a vote open to all Division I head coaches and Soccer Buzz staff.
Despite returning only five regular starters from last year's squad, Utah completed its most successful season all-time under second-year head coach Rich Manning. Manning was named West Region Coach of the Year after leading the Utes to a 16-2-2 mark and a final national ranking of No. 22 by Soccer Buzz. Utah won the Mountain West Conference championship with five freshmen starting and giving the Utes their first outright conference title.
Senior midfielder Amber Brower was named to the Soccer Buzz all-West second team. The Hyrum, Utah, native led the Utes with nine goals, including six game-winners, and had four assists.
Freshman forward Amanda Feigt made the Soccer Buzz all-West third team. Feigt, from Sandy, Utah, had a team-high eight assists and scored five goals.
Deatherage, a defender from Scottsdale, Ariz., started all 20 games for the Utes. Mason, a goalkeeper from Sunnyvale, Calif., led the nation in goals-against average (0.30 per game). Utah's defense ranked second in the NCAA in goals allowed (0.44 per game).
