SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah volleyball team recently held its postseason banquet where a season wrap-up, thank yous and awards were presented by Head Coach Beth Launiere.
Senior All-American Kim Turner was named the team MVP. She also received the team's Academic Award after being named a first-team Academic All-District selection. Turner was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/Tachikara third-team All-American, an AVCA/Tachikara All-West Region pick, Mountain West Conference Co-MVP, MWC all-tournament team selection and the MWC Player of the Week four times during the 2003 season.
Senior libero Jackie Morrill received the team's Best Defense award. Morrill was an AVCA/Tachikara All-West Region honorable mention pick, the MWC Libero of the Year and was named to the MWC all-tournament team.
Sophomore Shelly Sommerfeldt was presented with awards for being named to the MWC all-conference team and to the MWC all-tournament team.
Freshman Amie Toone was named Most Improved, while junior Lyndsey Henderson was the recipient of the Coaches Award.
In addition, Turner and Morrill were inducted into several of the "Career Club" categories. Turner belongs to the 1,000 kills, 400 blocks, .300 hitting percentage and 120 match clubs, while Morrill is part of the 1,000 digs and 120 match groups.
Turner, Sommerfeldt, Morrill, Henderson, Kelsie Kartchner, Carlee Kulovitz and Taryn Horner were all presented with certificates for being named MWC Academic All-Conference.
