SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's soccer players were presented their 2003 Mountain West Conference championship rings in a ceremony at Red Butte Caf? the evening of Tuesday, April 27.
The team members and staff enjoyed desert and received the rings from senior co-captains Bobbie Benegas and Amber Brower. The rings were designed by O.C. Tanner in Salt Lake City.
Utah had another highly successful season under second-year head coach Rich Manning in 2003. The Utes set the school record for wins with a 16-2-2 overall and 6-0 mark in Mountain West play, going undefeated against conference foes for the first time and winning its first outright league title.
The Utes captured the 2003 Mountain West Conference Tournament title at the U.'s Rice-Eccles Stadium, hosting the event for the first time ever. Utah defeated BYU 2-0 in the championship game, getting its third consecutive over the Cougars. The Utes also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.
Utah was ranked 24th in the final NSCAA/adidas poll to finish the season ranked in the Top 25 for the first time ever. The Utes were also ranked fourth in the West Region by the NSCAA. Manning was named the NSCAA/adidas West Region Coach of the Year.
