SALT LAKE CITY - Utah junior volleyball player Kelsie Kartchner has been selected as one of six to eight setters invited to try out for USA Volleyball's Women's National A2 Program.
Kartchner, a 5-10 junior from Pleasant Grove, Utah, will be involved in the A2 tryouts this Thursday-Saturday, April 8-10, at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. This is the second year in a row that Kartchner will be associated with the A2 program. Last summer, Kartchner, junior Lyndsey Henderson and senior All-American Kim Turner trained with the team in Lake Placid, N.Y. for two weeks.
If Kartchner is selected to be a part of the A2 Training Team, she will practice with the squad from May 18-28, at which time a team of 10 players will travel to Atlanta, Ga., to compete in the Women's Open Division of the U.S. National Championships. The U.S. National Championships run from May 29-June 1. There is also a chance the A2 Team will compete in a club tournament in eastern Russia from May 20-June 1 instead of traveling to Atlanta.
National Team Head Coach Toshi Yoshida and assistant Kevin Hambly, as well as Paula Weishoff, the assistant head coach at Southern California, will conduct the A2 National Team tryouts.
