SALT LAKE CITY - SoccerBuzz magazine has ranked the Utah women's soccer team's 2004 recruiting class as the 17th-best in the nation and fifth in the West Region.
Utah was the only Mountain West Conference team ranked in the Top 25, which included six West Coast teams. Texas A&M was tabbed by the magazine with the top class, followed by Notre Dame, North Carolina, Penn State and Texas. Among West Coast schools, Portland was seventh, California 10th, Santa Clara 15th, and UCLA 16th. (Click here for the release announcing Utah's 2004 recruiting class.)
Ute head coach Rich Manning will welcome 12 newcomers this fall as he begins his third season at the U. Manning has led the Utes to two NCAA Tournament appearances, as well as the 2003 Mountain West Conference regular-season and tournament championships.
"Through the recruiting process, we felt we had a terrific group of players that had decided to come to the University of Utah," said Manning. "It's very nice to see that other people have recognized this as well. These players have accomplished a lot at the highest levels of both youth and high school soccer. We expect them to have an impact on our program from day one. It's easy to see why this class would be ranked so highly. I'm very excited for our upcoming season, and our incoming class is a major reason why."
