WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - North Carolina native Lauren Field scored a goal in the sixth minute and the Utes got two more early in the second half to defeat Denver 3-1 on Friday afternoon to open play in the Wake Forest adidas Classic. Utah improved to 3-1-1 with victory.

Field, a senior forward from nearby High Point, scored the first goal 5:50 into the game. On a short corner kick driven right along the goal line, Kim Lloyd touched it to Field, who beat keeper Danielle Wiley for her first goal of the season

After Utah dominated play and kept the ball on its end to start the game, Denver (2-3-0) scored the first time it crossed midfield. Lleane Grimditch took the ball at midfield, weaved through a couple of defenders and placed a pass behind defense to Taryn Hemmings, who beat Ute keeper Ashley Mason at the 12:28 mark. Mason was back in the lineup after missing both games last weekend with a hip flexor injury, made two saves in the game.

Utah blew the game open early in the second half, getting a goal 2:35 out of halftime and another at the 51:45 mark. Kim Lloyd got her second assist of the day, taking the ball at midfield and slipping a pass behind the defense to a racing Hailey Marsh, who curled it over the charging Wiley to break a 1-1 tie. It was the second goal of the season for the Denver, Colo., native.

Amanda Feigt scored the Utes' final goal. Feigt received a through pass, beat the defender and slotted the ball home to the near post from 20 yards out.

Utah outshot Denver 15-4 and had a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Utes play their second of two games Wake Forest adidas Classic against Colorado on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. (MST). Utah returns home to host Boise State on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m.
