SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah volleyball head coach Beth Launiere is one of the newly elected members to the board of directors for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Launiere will sit on the board as the Division I Representative, a three-year appointment. Her tenure begins on Jan. 1, 2005.
"I am looking forward to being involved with the leadership of the AVCA," commented Launiere. "It is going to be a great learning experience and hopefully, we'll have some input on the direction of the sport of volleyball at the collegiate Division I level."
The Ute head coach is in her 15th season as the mentor of the volleyball program. She owns a 279-173 all-time record. She has led her squad to NCAA Tournament appearances the last six seasons, including a "Sweet 16" showing in 2001. Following the "Sweet 16" showing, Launiere was named the 2001 Tachikara/AVCA Division I West Region Coach of the Year. Launiere's Utes have recorded nine 20-win seasons, and last year, Utah posted a school-record 12 conference victories.
Newly elected board members joining Launiere are Bonnie Kenny of Delaware (president-elect), Al Scates of UCLA (men's rep), Sue Sinclair of Illinois Central College (two-year college rep), Ruth Lawanson of Fresno State (assistant coaches rep) and Mika Robinson (grassroots rep).
