SALT LAKE CITY - Utah freshman forward Chelsea Card has been named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week for women's soccer. It is the first career weekly honor for Card, a native of San Clemente, Calif.
Card led the Utes to two wins last week over Washington State, ranked No. 19 by Soccer America, and instate rival Utah State.
In Utah's 4-1 win over Washington State on Thursday, Card came off the bench to score two goals. Both goals came against Cougar goalkeeper Katie Hultin, who had not allowed a goal in over 420 minutes this season. In a 1-0 victory over Utah State on Sunday, Card contributed to the game-winning goal in overtime as she stole the ball from an Aggie defender and passed it downfield to Kiley Jones, who crossed to Erin Pruitt on the winning score.
Utah is 6-2-1 on the season and plays at UCLA on Friday at 6:00 p.m. (PDT) and at San Diego on Sunday at Noon (PDT).
