Nov. 30, 2005
Utah Head Coach Ray Giacoletti
Overall Reaction: "I told our guys after the game that we will not play a team that executes any better than Stew Morrill's team at Utah State. It isn't always going to be pretty. But if you give a great effort and play each possession - especially at the defensive end - like it's your last, you get fortunate every now and then. I was just happy. We had three freshmen and a sophomore in there down the stretch and those guys showed a little toughness. Before the game, we'd have taken a one-point win over Utah State. That's a darn good win. I think this is as good a win as we've had since we've been here."
"That was conference-level basketball. That's the effort that has to go into each and every one of these games, if you expect to be successful. It was a great lesson for our team tonight, because I hold Stew Morrill as one of the best coaches in college basketball."
On Utah State's Last Shot: "At that point you just leave it up to trying to do a great job, contest it and not foul him."
On Lawrence Borha: "L.B. grew up a little tonight. Those kids are going to get better if they'll just sustain their focus and sustain their effort."
On Bryant Markson: "(Bryant Markson) got us going and we ran plays to him to try to get him started. I thought everybody else fed off his energy, especially at the defensive end."
On motivation from last year's game: "Everybody knew. The older guys, obviously we didn't have a whole lot of guys up there last year, but they knew. We talked about it a little. You don't have to watch much tape to see how well Utah State executes."
Utah Forward Bryant Markson
On Lawrence Borha: "L.B. really stepped up. It was great to watch him come out and be free."
On getting the win: "I feel really good. We showed good mental toughness. Everybody was ready to play, nobody was joking around before and afterward. At halftime, it was real quiet. You could tell everybody came with the intensity to play."
On last year's game: "We might have mentioned it three times. We didn't need that for motivation."
On Utah State's last shot: "I didn't see it. Somebody was standing in front of me. I saw the ball miss and I was just trying to get the rebound."
Utah Guard Lawrence Borha
On his performance: "There was a lot of pressure on me. Coach gave me a chance to be on the court and I just did whatever I had to do to stay on the court."
On the three-pointer to give Utah the lead: "The coaches told me to shoot the ball. They've just been telling me to shoot the ball, so that's the first thing I was thinking, `shoot' and it went in."
On the behind-the-back dribble for a score late in the game: "I don't know what that was. I didn't plan that or anything. It just happened."
Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill
Overall Reaction: "It's tough to go on the road and give up the percentages we have been giving up. We played good enough offense to win tonight. We shot a high percentage and executed well. We just got out-rebounded and gave up such a high percentage shooting, those are two things we normally do pretty well. To be a better road team, we are going to have to improve on those two points."
"Utah is big and it is easier said than none to go out and out-rebound these guys. We have to get better on the defensive end and boards. We tried to get (Jaycee) Carroll a look at the end of the game, then we didn't get the look we wanted so we went to a set play. Jaycee got a half-decent look and we got a pretty good shot for a pretty good player."
"This was a heartbreaker and it is always tough to lose to Utah. These instate games are difficult to not come away with. I have grown up following these games my whole life and it's tough to go on the road and put ourselves in a position to win and not get it done, it's really tough."
