SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah volleyball head coach Beth Launiere has announced the addition of Mike Wall to the coaching staff this afternoon.
"I am excited about having Mike Wall as part of the Utah Volleyball coaching staff," remarked Launiere. "As both a player and coach, he has been associated with many winning programs and brings that level of expectation with him. Mike is extremely enthusiastic, hard working and determined, and will be an integral part of continuing and improving on the tradition of Utah Volleyball."
While on the Gaels' staff, Wall helped SMC to a 24-4 overall record and guided it to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2004 NCAA Volleyball Tournament.
Prior to his stint at Saint Mary's, Wall was an assistant coach at UC-San Diego in 2003-04. There he helped UCSD to its best season in program history.
He gained valuable experience playing volleyball at the international level as well. His international exploits began during the 2001-02 season when he served as the USA National Team Captain, taking part in the Dallas and Italian tours.
From 2002-04, Wall played volleyball overseas. He began playing in the Swiss National League A in 2002-03 and spent part of 2004 playing for San Sebastian Volleyball Club in Puerto Rico.
Wall played college at Brigham Young from 2000-02 and was a part of two national championship squads. At BYU, he was a two-time first team All-American and was also the Final Four MVP in 2001.
He graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in psychology.
