Leslie Weeks Hired As Utah Soccer Assistant Coach

Leslie Weeks, who had been an assistant coach at Portland State the past two years, has joined the University of Utah women's soccer staff as an assistant coach. The announcement came today from Ute head coach Rich Manning.
Weeks worked extensively with the goalkeepers during her two-year stint at Portland State. In 2003, she developed sophomore Niki Brooks in a starter the final four matches of the season. Brooks posted a pair of shutouts and had a 0.95 goals against average. Last year, Brooks recorded the most shutouts in conference play and had the best goals against average in the Big Sky Conference. The Vikings won the 2004 Big Sky Conference regular season championship.
In 2003, Weeks began working with the Oregon Youth Soccer Association's Olympic Development Program. She gained more ODP experience in 2004 when worked at the Region IV Camp. She has also coached high-level club soccer in California and Oregon.
Weeks played four years at the University of Washington and was on the 2000 Pac-10 championship team that climbed to No. 2 in the national polls. Along with U.S. National Team member Hope Solo, Weeks helped form the NCAA's best goalkeeping tandem from 1999-2000.
"Leslie is an excellent coach," said Manning. "She brings energy, great work ethic, insight and leadership to our team. As a player and a coach, she has been a champion at every level in which she competed. I expect our team to be influenced in a positive way by this. Also, Leslie's playing experience with youth national teams and at the University of Washington will benefit our players."
"In addition to her other duties, Leslie will be the primary coach for our goal keepers," Manning continued. "We have a terrific group of young goalies and I'm looking forward seeing them progress under Leslie's direction."
Prior to college, Weeks was one of the premier prep goalkeepers in the nation, earning Soccer America all-region honors in 1997. She was a member of the U.S. National Team Pool for U-15 in 1994 and U-16 in 1995. In addition, she was a three-time regional team member from 1994-96.
Following her playing career at Washington, Weeks transferred to San Diego State, where she earned a B.S. in kinesiology in 2002. She also volunteered as an assistant coach with the Aztecs.
