Katy Reineke, who recently signed a national letter of intent with the Ute women's soccer team, have been named the 2004 Gatorade Utah Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
Reineke led Salt Lake City East High School to the 2004 Class 4A state championship, scoring the game winning goal in overtime. She was also honored at the Class 4A MVP last season and was a first team all-state selection 2002-04.
Reineke was in the Olympic Development Program National Pool in 2003 and played for the Regional Team in 2000 and '03. She played for the Celtic Storm club team that won the Utah State Cup 2002-04.
"Katy is skillful, versatile and can hammer the ball," Ute head coach Rich Manning evaluated. "The first thing that people will notice is that her left foot is a cannon. She can score with it, hit great crosses and is deadly on set pieces. However, I also like that she is a good passer and reads the game well. With great club and ODP experience, she is also ready to play right now. If you asked me today, she would play in the midfield because she covers so much ground. But, she can play on any row on the field. Regardless of her position, she gives us a strong left-sided presence."
