Andrew Bogut Named SI On Campus Player Of The Year

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah sophomore center Andrew Bogut has been named the Sports Illustrated On Campus Men's Basketball Player of the Year. SI On Campus announced its "Winter Players of the Year" in the April 7 issue.
The 7-foot Australian had an NCAA-best 26 double-doubles in 2004-05, and ranked 15th nationally in scoring (20.4 ppg), second in rebounding (12.2 rpg) and fourth in field goal percentage (62.0). Bogut led the Runnin' Utes to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and a 29-6 record, its best since 1997-98.
Bogut has won nearly all the college player of the year awards announced this season. Last Sunday at the Final Four in St. Louis, Bogut was given the Naismith Trophy, named the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I Men's Player of the Year and the Pete Newell Big Man of the Year.
Also during the Final Four weekend, The Associated Press, Chevrolet/CBS and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association selected him as the player of the year. The Basketball Times and ESPN.com named Bogut their national player of the year a few weeks ago.
Bogut is one of five finalists for the John R. Wooden Award, which will be presented at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Saturday at 10 a.m. (PDT). CBS Sports will televise the announcement. Bogut is a finalist for the prestigious award along with North Carolina's Sean May, Illinois' Dee Brown, Duke's J.J. Redick and Kansas' Wayne Simien.
