Utah Women's Soccer Welcomes Alumni Back To Campus

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's soccer team continued its spring schedule the morning of Saturday, April 2 by welcoming Utah soccer alumni back to campus with a 7-aside scramble in Spence Eccles Field House. The current Utes were split into two teams, which both competed against the Alumni team in five 20-minute matches.
The event boasted players from the first 10 years of the Utah soccer program with many recent graduates also participating. The match was a great opportunity for the current Utes to work on the skill areas that they have been focusing on in this spring, as well as a chance to catch up with alumni and keep them involved with Utah Soccer.
The Utah Alumni, led by former stars Amber Brower (2000-03) and Shauna Bingham (1999-2002), proved to be solid competition for the current Utes. The alumni team was able to put together a potent offensive attack. Jacki Doman Cameron (1995-96), who holds the school record for number of goals in a season, proved she could still light up the scoreboard and proved to be a handful for current Ute defenders.
The Alumni team was also strong defensively, with solid play from goalkeeper Courtney Hills-McBeth (1999-2002), and defenders Jen Williams (1999-2003) and Tracy Stratton Garner (2000-03).
Other attending alumnae included: Tonya Dansereau Davis (1996-99), Lauren Field (01-04), Bobbie Benegas Hackenbruck (2000-03), Heather Wilhelm-Carter (2000-03), and Cortney Johanson (1999-2001).
Head Coach Rich Manning says the event was a success and is excited to continue having the alumni participate in the building of the soccer program.
"Saturday was a great day to celebrate the success that the women's soccer program has experienced here at Utah due to the abilities and hard work done by these alumni," said Manning. "We want to continue a tradition where every graduated player continues to feel connected to the current team, and where the current players are aware of the tradition and history of the program."
The Utes return to action Saturday, April 9 when they participate in BYU's Outdoor Tournament in Provo, Utah. Utah is scheduled to face Idaho State at 1:00 p.m., BYU at 3:00 p.m. and Utah Valley State College at 5:00 p.m.
