COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The venue had changed from last weekend but the result was still same for the 13th-ranked Utes.
After getting a pair of 1-0 wins over UNLV and BYU to open Mountain West Conference play at home last weekend, Utah ventured to the front range of the Rocky Mountains to face the Air Force Academy on Wednesday.
As it turned out, Adele Letro continued her scoring streak and Utah's defense, led by goalkeeper Ashley Mason, posted another shutout. The Utes downed the Falcons 2-0 on a crisp evening at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
Utah won its sixth game in a row to improve to 10-4 overall and remained perfect in Mountain West play at 3-0. The Utes also recorded their fifth consecutive shutout. Mason made four saves before giving way to Lynzee Lee for the final 15 minutes.
The Utes outshot Air Force (3-9-3, 0-2-1 MWC) by a 17-10 margin, and put several shots on frame. Falcon keeper Erin Wallace made five stops and Air Force was credited with one team save. Utah also had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Letro scored her third goal in as many games in the 21st minute. On a set piece, Melissa Crespo passed the ball into the box from the top left corner. Letro, who had her back to the goal, spun to the right and fired a shot to the left post from 10 yards out. The sophomore from Davis, Calif., has seven goals on the season to pace the Mountain West Conference.
Jen Christoffers scored her third goal of the season in the 57th minute. After a melee for the ball in the midfield, it bounced toward Christoffers as she sprinted towards Air Force's net. With Wallace off her line by 15 yards, Christoffers fired from 35 yards out and scored the goal.
The Utes remained perfect all-time against Air Force, improving their series record to 9-0.
Utah returns to action on Sunday, taking on New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M., at 1:00 p.m.
