Webb Honored With MWC Player of the Week

SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah volleyball player Whitney Webb won the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Week award after helping the Utes to two victories last week, extending their winning streak to a school-record 15 matches.
Webb, a 6-1 junior from Gilbert, Ariz., led the first-place and No. 12-ranked Utes to a 2-0 record last week, including a five-game, come-from-behind win over conference foe Wyoming.
In Utah's sweep of non-conference opponent Utah Valley State, Webb had a season-high .611 hitting percentage, collecting 12 kills in 18 attempts with only one error. She also tallied a career-high nine total blocks to go along with seven digs and four assists.
Against the Cowgirls, Webb fell one block short of a triple-double, totaling a career-best 26 digs and matching her career-high in total blocks (nine), while falling one short of a career-high in kills, notching 16.
For the week, Webb averaged a team-high 3.50 kills, 4.12 digs, 2.25 blocks and 1.00 assists per game, while hitting .404 (25-4-50).
This marks the first such honor of Webb's career.
Webb is the third Ute to win the award this year as Airial Salvo (Sept. 18) and Sydney Anderson (Oct. 2) previously bagged the honor.
Webb and the volleyball team return to action this weekend when they host San Diego State on Friday and UNLV on Sunday. The matches will be at Crimson Court and will start at 7 and 4 p.m., respectively.
