SALT LAKE CITY - Four members of the Utah women's soccer team, which won the Mountain West title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA College Cup playoffs, were named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas All-West Region Team.
Sophomore forward Adele Letro and senior goalkeeper Ashley Mason were named to the first team. Senior forward Amanda Feigt made the second team and senior defender Melissa Wayman was voted onto the third team.
Letro led the Utes with 12 goals, including eight game-winners, and also had three assists. The Davis, Calif., native was honored as the 2006 MWC Offensive Player of the Year. Letro has scored 19 goals in two seasons at the U.
Mason started 21 games in goal for the Utes, recording a .90 goals against average with 76 saves and 19 goals allowed. The native of Sunnyvale, Calif., posted seven complete-game shutouts and contributed to three others. Mason was named the 2006 MWC Defensive Player of the Year. She finished her career as Utah's all-time leader in goals against average (.732) and shutouts (28.8).
Feigt was the Utes' second-leading scorer with seven goals and had a team-high seven assists. She was also named first team all-Mountain West Conference. The Sandy, Utah, native left the U. as the school's all-time assists leader (22).
Wayman started all 22 games and was a vital contributor to the Utes' defense that surrendered only 19 goals and posted 11 shutouts. Utah also didn't allow a goal in conference play. The West Valley City, Utah, native also earned first team all-Mountain West recognition last season.
Utah tied the school record for wins with a 16-5-1 record and went undefeated in Mountain West Conference play at 7-0. The Utes earned an NCAA tournament berth for the fifth consecutive year under head coach Rich Manning and advanced to the second round.
