SALT LAKE CITY - It may be the offseason but for seven University of Utah volleyball players, they'll be in mid-season form this summer when they venture overseas to play in international tournaments.
First up is sophomore Shannon Krug, playing on the USA Select "All-Frosh" team. Her team is playing in Argentina with action beginning Wednesday, May 31 through Thursday, June 8. Her team will be playing the Argentina National and Junior National Teams prior to its summer competition schedule.
The other six Ute spikers are crossing the pond and playing in Maribor, Slovenia, from July 21 to Aug. 1. Connie Dangerfield, Emillie Toone, Airial Salvo, Kathryn Lovell, Lori Baird and Sydney Anderson will all compete in the Global Challenge in Europe. The Global Challenge hosts teams from all over Europe, Asia and the Americas.
In addition to the six players going to Slovenia, assistant coaches Burt Fuller and Heather Olmstead will also be making the trip. They will each be coaching a team during the 11-day trip.
Journals, up-to-date results and pictures from the overseas excursions are available at the Global Challenge Web site.
