SALT LAKE CITY - The Mountain West Conference honored five University of Utah volleyball student-athletes by awarding them the league's 2005-06 Scholar Athlete Award.
Named were freshman Lacey Lavarias (3.91, parks, recreation and tourism), freshman Kathryn Lovell (3.83, pre-pharmacy), junior Natalie Miller (3.96, economics), senior Katie Theurer (3.63, elementary education) and sophomore Emillie Toone (3.52, exercise and sport science).
In all, 54 Utah student-athletes were recognized.
A total of 535 student-athletes league-wide were named Mountain West Conference Scholar Athletes for 2005-06. To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition for their athletic team.
