INDIANAPOLIS - Melissa Wayman and Melissa Crespo of the Utah women's soccer team have been named to the U.S. Women's National Select Team 18-player roster that will travel to Mexico on Tuesday, July 25 to play Mexico's U-20 National Team and their Full National Squad.
The WNST, coached by Abner Rogers, will arrive in Mexico City on Tuesday before facing the U-20's on Thursday. They will play the Mexican National Team on Sunday, July 30 before returning to the United States the following day.
Crespo, a junior defender from Milpitas, Calif., started 18 games for the Utes last season. Wayman, a senior defender from West Valley City, Utah, was named the 2005 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Wayman and Crespo are two of Utah's nine returning starters from a team that won the Mountain West Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Utes open their 2006 home schedule with the Utah Fall Classic, Sept. 1 and 3 at Ute Field. Games the first night feature Utah State against Arizona at 5:00 p.m., followed by Utah versus Washington State at 7:30 p.m.
