Rich's Remarks
On last weekend's games: "We played some good soccer last weekend and I was pleased at some of the things we did on the field. For an opening game, we played very well against Stanford. And we battled Santa Clara with everything we had. I was especially happy that, upon falling behind late in that game, we went after the equalizer with determination."
"I was excited about our team defending. We had some players in new positions and, overall, we made it difficult for Stanford and Santa Clara to create chances on us. Ashley Mason played terrifically in goal. Our back four showed great teamwork. Kiley Jones and Melissa Wayman were tireless in their efforts in midfield. And our attackers worked hard for us. We attacked well in spurts. Hopefully we can add some consistency on the attack as the season moves along"
On The Fall Classic: "We are eagerly anticipating this weekend's Utah Fall Classic. Utah State, Washington State and Arizona are terrific programs with three of my favorite coaches. Heather Cairns (USU), Matt Potter (WSU) and Dan Tobias (U of A) know the game well and are great role models for their players. All three teams play an entertaining brand of soccer and are not afraid to open the game up and go for goal. Fans will see some great talent playing team ball at a high level. It's a fantastic way to start off the home season!"
"Washington State is coming off of a good season last year. They probably should have been chosen for the NCAA Tournament. They also have some great young talent. They will be tough to break down on defense and move the ball well in attack."
"Arizona got us twice last year. They are replacing some big pieces, but Dan is a master of putting the puzzle together and they will be ready to go. I'm a big fan of their young forwards, London King, Gianna DeSaverio and Laura Huylebroeck. They are quick, hard and go to the goal. They are also solid in the back with Claire Bodiya and Katy Heath among others."
