SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah outside hitter Airial Salvo has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. It's her first such honor of the season and the third of her career.
A 6-0 sophomore from Farmington, Utah, Salvo led the Utes to a 3-0 record last week, including conference wins over Colorado State and Air Force. In a non-conference tilt against Weber State, she notched a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Salvo also tallied three total blocks and two service aces at WSU.
She followed that with 11 kills, six digs, two blocks and two assists in a three-game sweep over conference foe Colorado State. Against the Falcons, Salvo collected her second double-double of the week (seventh of the season), knocking down 13 kills and tallying 10 digs in Utah's third straight sweep on the week. Her .478 hitting percentage versus the Falcons was a season-high.
On the week, Salvo averaged 4.00 kills, 3.00 digs, 0.78 blocks and 0.33 service aces per game, while hitting .329 (36-8-85).
Salvo and her teammates return to action this Thursday, Sept. 21, when they play at UNLV. First serve is set for 7 p.m. (PDT).
