SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball's (4-2 overall) home opener went off without a hitch as it dispensed of Temple University, tallying the 3-0 win here this afternoon.
Game scores were 30-25, 30-21, 30-24 as Temple tumbles to 5-3 on the year.
"I thought we played well today," said head coach Beth Launiere. "I really liked how well executed. I thought today was the best flow this team has had yet this season.
"The whole system is starting to come together, now. We still have little things we need to work on. We're a good team but we have the potential to be a great team."
The Utes cruised to wins in games one and two, hitting .515 in the first frame and .278 in the second. But, Temple threw up some resistance in the third game as Utah had to rally from a 6-1 deficit to capture the three-game sweep.
Utah ended up out-hitting its rivals, .301-.105.
Four Utes hit over .300 for the match as Airial Salvo tallied her fifth straight double-double. She led the Utes with 15 kills and also had 14 digs.
It was Emillie Toone and Lori Baird who were the most efficient Utes on the afternoon. Baird hit a smokin' .462 in talling eight kills on 13 swings. Toone hit .400 with another eight kills. She also added an impressive 11 total blocks for the match, one shy of her career best.
Salvo hit .382 while Webb was the fourth to break the .300 plateau. She hit .316 in recording seven kills. Webb added nine digs and five blocks.
Defensively, Utah held the 13.5-5 advantage in team blocks. Connie Dangerfield's 15 digs led the Utes from the back row.
Temple was paced by Yue Liu (13 kills), Maira Magollon (29 assists), Ying Sue Ling (13 digs) and Christina DeMarco (three blocks).
Utah returns to the court tonight to play Utah State at 7 p.m.
