THIS WEEK The University of Utah Track and Field team will once again split up this weekend, with athletes going to both the Bronco Indoor Invitational in Nampa, Id. and the Wisconsin Elite Meet in Madison Wis.
LAST WEEK The Utes ran and jumped very well last weekend at the Utah State Open and the National Pole Vault Summit. Freshman Whitney Wellington (Fr. Surrey, British Columbia) broke the University of Utah school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.80 seconds. Amanda Feigt (Sr. Sandy, Ut.) ran the second fastest time in school history in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.91 seconds; the record for the 60m hurdles is 8.60 sec., set by April Jackson in 2002. Susan Atwater (Sr. Fruit Heights, Ut.) crushed her previous personal record in the pole vault with a jump of 13 ft., which was 10 inches higher than her previous record.
UTE NOTES Two-thirds of the Utes will be attending the Wisconsin Elite Meet in Madison, Wis. This will be the first year the Utes have been invited to the elite meet. Utah is hoping to show it can compete with the Big Ten Conference powerhouses in attendance at the meet. The other third of the team will compete at the Bronco Indoor Invitational hosted by Boise State.
KEPLER'S QUOTES "We're now entering the middle third of the season and are continuing to develop as individuals and a team," says head coach Kyle Kepler. "It's time to step up to the next level and compete to break and set personal and school records. We are very fortunate to be invited to the elite meet, it shows the growth of the program is in the right direction."
NEXT WEEK The Utah Track and Field team will be in Pocatello, Id. for the Multiple Duals on Saturday, Feb. 3.
