LOGAN, Utah - Playing in frigid temperatures, the University of Utah soccer team heated up early in the second half, en route to a 2-0 win over Utah State Saturday afternoon.

On a cold, rainy and sometimes snowy day in the Cache Valley, the Utes and Aggies played to a scoreless first half. Utah head coach Rich Manning gave credit to his goalkeeper and the back line for keeping Utah State (4-8-0) off the board in the first 45 minutes.

"We really didn't start the game the way we wanted," Manning said. "But Lynzee Lee came up big for us. She pulled a couple out of the net and kept us even with them going into halftime. Our two center backs - Amanda Sanchez and Kiley Jones - had great games, as well."

Utah (8-2-2) got going on offense quickly after the break. Less than two minutes into the second half, Utah junior Adele Letro (Davis, Calif.) scored her 13th goal of the season to put Utah on top 1-0. Eight minutes later, junior Katy Reineke (Salt Lake City) added her eighth tally of the year and put Utah on top 2-0.

"I thought we played terrific soccer in the second half," Manning said. "We had great energy. Even given the conditions, we played some very good soccer. We were able to score a couple goals and we were unlucky not to get a couple others."

Lee made nine saves, including six in the first half, to pick up her third shutout of the season. The Utah defense limited Utah State to just four shots in the second half, shutting down the Aggie offense.

With the win over Utah State, the Utes wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule. Utah will open Mountain West Conference play next week, with a road game at UNLV Thursday and a contest at BYU next Saturday.
