SALT LAKE CITY - Veni, Vidi, Vici! The University of Utah volleyball team is off to Italy for a week of sightseeing and volleyball.
The Utes will spend the week of Spring Break touring Italy and Croatia where they will also have the chance to play some of the top volleyball teams in those areas.
"It will be a great experience for the program in terms of team bonding and in the level of competition we'll face," said head coach Beth Launiere. "Any time you have an experience like this, it allows the team to grow and that will be big step toward our preparations for the 2007 season."
The trip begins with the team landing in Venice, Italy, on March 17. From there they go to Pula, Croatia and Rijeka, Croatia. At those two sites, they will play Ok Rijeka (the top Croation team) on March 19 and Nova KBM (the second-place Croation team) on March 20.
From Pula, the team ventures to Pordenone, Italy, where it will play Spes Volley Conegliano (an A2 Italian team) on March 20. After the match, the Utes go to Ravenna, Italy, to play Teodoa (an Italian B1 team) and the Italian Youth National Team on March 21.
The last match is in Peruggia, Italy, on March 22. The Utes will play Marsciano (another Italian B1 team) and then they will conclude their trip with sightseeing in Rome on March 23-24.
