SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah volleyball players Airial Salvo and Sydney Anderson have announced that they are leaving the program. The players informed head coach Beth Launiere of their intentions earlier this week.
"Their departure was difficult to accept at this time of the year, but we are moving forward and our team is determined to keep us among the nation's elite volleyball programs," said Launiere. "The positive is how our team has bonded together after this surprise announcement."
The 2006 Utes set school records for wins (28-4) and winning percentage (.875), went undefeated in Mountain West Conference play (16-0), and were ranked No. 15 in the final poll, climbing to as high as No. 9 during the season and ranking in the top 10 for six weeks. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth-straight year. There were no seniors on the roster.
Salvo, an outside hitter from Farmington, Utah, and Anderson, a setter from Salt Lake City, would have been a junior and sophomore, respectively, in the fall.
