Utah Soccer Shares Top MWC Preseason Ranking

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In a vote by the league's coaches, Utah and BYU each received four of eight first-place votes and were selected to share the 2007 Mountain West Conference women's soccer title in the preseason poll released Wednesday by the conference office.
The Utes and Cougars collected 46 points and four first-place votes apiece to capture the top spot in the poll.
UNLV, last year's MWC Tournament Champion, tallied 37 points to earn the third spot. San Diego State was picked to finish fourth with 29 points, followed by New Mexico fifth with 23 points. TCU took the sixth spot (20 points), while Wyoming (15 points) and Air Force (7 points) rounded out the top eight.
The Utes earned last year's regular-season crown by posting a perfect 7-0-0record and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Utah advanced to the second round before falling, 3-0, to Portland. The Cougars finished second in the regular season last year with a 4-1-2 conference mark and also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
UNLV received the MWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2006. The three NCAA participants tied the most number of league teams (3) to play in the postseason. Utah, which finished with a 16-5-1 record last season, returns all-MWC first-team selection and Offensive Player of the Year Adele Letro, along with Co-Freshman of the Year, Kelly Isleib.
BYU returns 20 letterwinners and 12 starters, including four first-team all-conference members and the Co-Freshman of the Year, Andrea Willis. UNLV also returns 16 letterwinners and 10 starters, including three all-conference performers.
The 2007 MWC Women's Soccer Championship will take place in Provo, Utah on the BYU campus, Nov. 7-10.
