SALT LAKE CITY -- Last Friday night's Utah-Idaho State soccer match was delayed nearly two hours due to lightning in the area. Ute head coach Rich Manning and the team would like to thank everyone who remained to watch the game. For those, who couldn't stay, your ticket to the Idaho State game can be redeemed for any other home game through the remainder of the 2007 season.
Coach Rich Manning said the following about Friday night's experience:
"The Utah soccer team and I would personally like to thank our fans, family, friends and alumni who came to support us last weekend for our matches against Idaho State and Oregon. The players and coaches were excited to see the great turnouts and were energized by the enthusiasm that was ringing through Ute Soccer Field.
"We would particularly like to thank the people who stayed during the nearly two-hour lightning delay on Friday night. Everyone was so patient in the middle of a frustrating situation. And... Wow!... So many peoiple stayed to watch, as we had our own version "midnight madness" in a 3-2 overtime thriller.
"We understand that it was a long night. We would have preferred to play the game earlier. But safety comes first. We got the match started as early as NCAA regulations would allow.
"Thanks again! We truly have some of the best and most dedicated fans in collegiate soccer. We look forward to seeing you at Ute Field again this week for our matches with Cal Poly at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Washington at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Go Utes!"
For those who couldn't stay due to the late hour or the threat of severe weather, Utah Athletics is offering a voucher which can be exchanged for a ticket to any other home game this year.
