LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of Utah women's soccer team suffered a tough loss to No. 25 Long Beach State in overtime Sunday at George Allen Field.

Long Beach State's Lindsay Bullock tapped a header past Ute goalkeeper Lynzee Lee off a corner kick in the 94th minute to lift the 49ers to a 1-0 win over the Utes.

"It was a little frustrating," said Utah head coach Rich Manning. "They have two good headers ... Bullock and Bolt. On every corner kick, everyone knew we needed to make sure we were on both of them. We just lost (Bullock) on the one in overtime."

Utah had the advantage most of the day, statistically. The Utes fired off 15 shots, compared to eight for Long Beach. Utah also had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. But 49er goalkeeper Liz Ramos made five saves to keep the Utes off the scoreboard.

"Both teams were pretty tired and didn't have a lot of energy," Manning said. "We played better in the first 30 minutes of the second half. That was the best we've played all season. We created two really good scoring chances during that stretch. We just didn't convert. The system we're trying to implement is coming together a little bit."

In the 70th minute, following a foul, Adele Letro's shot in front of the net was knocked away by LBSU defender Julie Megorden. In the 79th minute Erin Dalley had a good look, but her shot sailed over the net from 25 yards out.

Manning, though disappointed in the result, saw positives in the way his team played.

"Kelly Isleib played a great game," Manning said. "She was getting the ball and creating havoc for the other team, dribbling right at people. She made two or three great passes to set up scoring opportunities for us. It was one of the better games of her career.

"Kiley Jones did a really nice job in the middle again," Manning added. "Jen Christoffers came off the bench and played very well, also."

Utah is now 1-1-0 on the young season. Long Beach State improved to 2-0-0. The Utes are in action again Thursday, when they travel to face No. 14 Colorado.
