COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah senior middle blocker Emillie Toone was named Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This is the first such honor of Toone's career.
Toone led Utah to two conference wins last week as the Utes took sole possession of second place in the MWC standings. In two matches, she averaged 2.71 kills, 2.14 blocks and 3.93 points per set.
Thursday against UNLV, Toone registered eight kills on 14 attempts and committed just two errors for a .429 percentage. She also tied for the match high with six blocks against the Rebels.
In the Utes' 3-1 win over San Diego State Saturday, Toone collected 11 kills, nine blocks, and converted 11 kills on 17 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage.
Toone has been the most efficient attacker in the MWC this season, hitting .415 on the attack. She is third on the team with 137 kills, but has committed only 24 attack errors on 272 swings. Toone also ranks second in the conference with 1.38 blocks per set, totaling seven block solos and 76 block assists in 60 sets this season. Toone is currently second on the school's all-time block assist list (514) and total blocks list (565), needing 75 block assists and 105 total blocks to tie school records held by Kim Turner (2000-03).
Teammate Lori Baird won last week's conference Player of the Week honor after leading Utah to another 3-0 week. This is the first time Utah has had back-to-back winners of the award since Whitney Webb was recognized on Oct. 16 and 23, 2006.
Toone shared the weekly honor with Colorado State middle blocker Mekana Barnes.
Utah (13-4, 5-2 MWC) will put its season-long six-match win streak on the line in a Deseret First Duel match Friday at BYU. First serve for the match is set for 7 p.m. MT. BYU-TV will provide a live telecast.
