COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two former University of Utah soccer players have been named to the Mountain West Conference 10th-Anniversary Team, announced by the MWC Wednesday. Forwards Amy Kofoed (Layton, Utah) and Amanda Feigt (Sandy, Utah) were selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and an on-line fan poll.
Kofoed finished her career as Utah's all-time leading scorer, netting 46 goals from 1998-2001, and remains the present record-holder. She is also the all-time points leader for the Utes, racking up 108 points. A three-time first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection (1999, 2000, `01), Kofoed was also an NSCAA third-team All-West Region choice in 2000.
"Amy clearly made a significant impact during her collegiate career, as evidenced by her goal-scoring ability," said Utah head coach Rich Manning. "That being said, Amy was much more than a goal-scorer, she was a very versatile player. She could play several positions and could help her team win in several different ways, including passing, on defense and on set pieces. When she played for a short time with San Diego in the WUSA, and now currently with the Utah Spiders, one of her best qualities is that she will play anywhere they ask her to. At the end of the day she is a smart, good soccer player. People may paint her as a one-dimensional goal-scorer, but she is really so much more."
Feigt was a four-time first-team All-MWC selection (2003, `04, `05, `06) and was named the MWC Freshman of the Year in 2003. That year she also earned second-team Freshman All-America honors and was an NSCAA All-West Region second-team choice. Feigt ended her career as Utah's all-time leader in assists with 22. She is also fifth on the Utes' all-time points list with 72 and is Utah's sixth-leading all-time scorer with 25 goals to her credit. Additionally, Feigt was a four-year member of Utah's track and field team and remains the current school-record holder in the Heptathlon and the 4 x 400-meter relay.
"Amanda was part of three MWC Championship teams in her four years here and made a strong impact on each one," said Manning. "She was a constant threat on the field and opponents had to adjust their defense for her. In addition, she had an incredible work rate and ability to cover ground both offensively and defensively. She was a big reason why those teams were so successful. Amanda also competed for Utah in track so we only had her as a soccer player for half the year, but she really made the most of those months each and every year."
Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 seasons in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th anniversary.
