COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In a vote by the league's coaches, Utah women's soccer tied for third with San Diego State in the 2008 Mountain West Conference preseason coaches' poll. The results were released earlier this week by the conference office.
The Utes and the Aztecs collected 36 points in the poll, finishing just behind 2007 league champion UNLV (39 points). The 2008 preseason favorite is BYU, who collected 49 points in the poll. Utah finished ahead of TCU, who came in fifth with 24 points. New Mexico was ranked sixth (17 points), while Wyoming (16) and Air Force (7) rounded out the top eight.
Utah returns three of their top four scoring threats from a year ago, including senior captain Katy Reineke (9 goals, 7 assists, 25 points), junior Kelly Isleib (1 goal, 13 assists, 15 points) and sophomore Lauren Hair (4 goals, 7 assists, 15 points). Utah is led by head coach Rich Manning, now in his seventh year at the helm.
The 2008 MWC Women's Soccer Championship will take place on the UNLV campus, Nov. 5-8.
