SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's soccer team recently saw two of its players honored for achievements both on and off the soccer field. Junior midfielder Kelly was a third-team All-West Region selection, while senior forward Katy Reineke earned first-team Scholar All-West Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
"Kelly had a fantastic season for us," said Utah head coach Rich Manning. "She had to run the attack for us with many new faces and personalities around her. In addition to her pinpoint passing, she added a scoring dimension to her game this year. It was exciting to see her grow. Kelly has established herself as one of the most creative players at the college level and we anticipate a terrific senior year for her and the team.
"Katy has been a first class player and representative of our university from the moment she came to the U.," continued Manning. "She has done tremendously well in the classroom. This past year on the field, she had to adjust to a new position, which is something that is not easy to do as a senior. Katy was all class and contributed significantly to our second-place finish in the conference."
Isleib, a native of Park City, Utah, has now earned NSCAA All-Region honors each year of her career. Named to the All-West Freshman Team in 2006, she followed up with a second-team All-West Region appointment in 2007.
Reineke maintains a 3.43 GPA as an economics major and has earned her second consecutive NSCAA Scholar All-West Region award. In 2007, the Salt Lake City native received a third-team selection in 2007.
Isleib, also a first-team All-MWC choice this year, led the Utes in assists (6), points (18) and tied for the team lead in goals scored (6) and game-winning goals (4). With her sixth assist of the season, Isleib became Utah's new all-time leader in career assists (23). Isleib also became just the third Ute ever to record three assists in a game, and the first since Maren Harper in 2000, with a trio of helpers against San Diego State. Isleib already holds Utah's single-season assist record of 13, set as a sophomore in 2007.
Reineke also earned first-team All-MWC honors this year, finishing her career with her first all-conference appointment. Reineke finished the year tied with Isleib as the team's top goal scorer, finding the net six times. She also tied for second on the squad in assists (4), and registered the team's second-most points (16). Reineke led the team in shots taken (79) and shots on goal (36).
Reineke was a three-time Academic All-MWC award winner and is all but assured of becoming a four-time honoree when the 2008 winners are announced.
