LAST IN ACTION
The University of Utah track and field team sent its full squad to the Wilson Motor Open indoor track meet held at Utah State University on Jan. 17. The Utes won three events and broke four personal records.
Freshman Lucy Yates won the 800-meter run with an all-time eighth best mark in school history with a running time of 2:15.02. Haley McAllister-Birkeland won the long jump (17'10") and Ashley Patterson won the triple jump (37'6").
Other personal bests besides Lucy Yates were achieved by Jessica Hampton (46'00") and Candus Aiello (44'7.5") in the weight throw, and freshman Brianna LeRoy in the shot put with a toss of 32'5.75".
The Utes also had four second-place performances: freshman Langley Iverson in the high jump, Brianna LeRoy in the long jump, Josefin Berg in the weight throw and Chelsea Shapard in the 800-meter run.
THOUGHT FROM COACH Kyle Kepler
"The last couple of weeks we've been practicing really hard. For this meet we will be gauging our improvements and look at the flaws that will need to be worked on and improve those weaknesses. For those that haven't competed yet this season, this is a great place for them to start. For those that have competed, we look for them to push themselves and focus on what they are doing, not necessarily on how they are doing. We want all of our athletes to have good technique."
"We are going to go out and run hard this weekend. This is the second race for Lauren Endersen and Kellie Anderson. Endersen came within four-seconds of her lifetime personal record in the 3,000-meter run at Utah State, so we are looking for her to make a breakthrough this weekend. We are headed to an outstanding facility, so this gives them an opportunity to really do well."
