SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's track and field team will open the 2009 indoor season with a limited squad this weekend at the BYU Cougar Invitational. Competition will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Friday's events will feature Haley McAllister-Birkeland and Breanna LeRoy in the long jump. LeRoy will also have her first collegiate appearance in the pentathlon event. The throwers will be minus Josefin Berg, but will compete in both the weight throw and shot put events.
Saturday's events will feature McAllister-Birkeland and Chelsea Kaplar running in the 300-meter event. Kaplar and LeRoy are also set to compete in the 60-meter hurdles.
"This is a low key opening meet because several of our athletes are not yet back from winter break," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "This will be a great opportunity for those that are in town to compete and see how they're doing."
