AMES, IOWA - The University of Utah track and field group that competed at the Iowa State Classic indoor track meet over the weekend had many successes and good showings amongst schools nationwide. On Saturday the Utes competed in the one-mile run, 800-meter, 3K, and high jump events, with Utah's athletes finishing on top of the competition.
In the mile-run, senior Janett Ern sprung right into action to outdo her competitors with a swift 5:06.54 finish to earn second-place. Her time was just one-tenth of a second slower than the first-place finisher Ann Tank from UW-Platteville. The next finisher was Emilee Morris from Kansas State with a time of 5:08.21.
Freshman Langley Iverson continues to make leaps and bounds of improvements in the high jump. Iverson hit a 5'6" jump last week at the Mountain State Games, and after a week of practice, was ready to push herself to the next level. On Saturday, Iverson gave a big effort to execute an impressive 5'7.25" jump to earn a sixth-place tie with Emily Breslin of Purdue.
In the 800-meter run, freshman Lucy Yates had an unbelievable effort. The Ute ran an impressive 2:10.44 for a 14th-place overall finish. Her time now ranks third on Utah's all-time indoor performance list.
