COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - The Mountain West Conference Track and Field Championships got underway Thursday with the women's heptathlon and pentathlon events finishing out. Utah's Brianna LeRoy finished seventh in the pentathlon to gain Utah 2 points.
"We are very pleased with Brianna's performance today. She was solid in every event and improved by 13 seconds in the 800-meter," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "To score in the multi-event as a freshman is a great accomplishment and it gives us some momentum heading into day two."
LeRoy finished in seventh-place with 3,293 points after excelling in three of the five events. Starting out in the 60-meter hurdles, the Ute finished with a swift time of 9.07 to tally 895 points right out of the gate. In the high jump, LeRoy hit a 5'4.25" mark for 771 point.
The shot put added 473 points to her overall score after a 30'00" effort. The long jump saw a great performance, where LeRoy hit a 17'8.25" distance to add another 668 points. The Ute finished out the pentathlon with the 800-meter run, where she clocked a 2:47.82 and 486 points.
