SALT LAKE CITY - Utah head volleyball coach Beth Launiere announced two coaching staff changes Wednesday. Heather Olmstead moves from second assistant to first assistant, replacing Burt Fuller, who accepted an assistant position at Marquette University.
"Heather is a proven Division I volleyball coach and has been a key part of our success over the last three years," said Launiere. "She has been grooming for this job and I am confident she will succeed in her new role. While we hate to lose Burt, we feel fortunate to have someone like Heather prepared to step in and keep us competitive at the highest level."
During Olmstead's first three seasons in Salt Lake City, she assisted the Utes in compiling a 69-25 record and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2008.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to continue to be a part of Utah volleyball and this university," Olmstead said. "It has been great being a part of the success we have had here and I am eager to take on some new responsibilities."
Said Fuller of his departure, "I have thoroughly enjoyed my eight years coaching volleyball in the state of Utah, including my three seasons at the U. I have met many great people here and it is difficult to leave this program. Beth (Launiere), Heather (Olmstead) and the team are like a family. The experiences and lessons we all learned here will stay with me for a lifetime."
"I want to thank Burt for his contributions and loyalty to our program," Launiere said. "This (position at Marquette) is an opportunity for him both professionally and personally. We wish him all the best."
The search to fill the vacant spot on the coaching staff will begin immediately.
