SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team hosts its annual Spring Tournament Saturday at Crimson Court (HPER E 101). The Utes are in Pool A along with BYU, Weber State and the College of Southern Idaho, while Pool B teams include Utah State, Utah Valley, Utah Alumni, and Salt Lake Community College. Utah will face WSU at 9 a.m., the College of Southern Idaho at 11 a.m., then BYU at 2 p.m. The Utes' playoff match will be against one of the Pool B teams at either 3 or 4 p.m.
"Our spring tournament is a big part of our preseason training for the fall," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "Not only do our younger players get a chance to play a lot and get more experience, but it's also a chance for our fans to see where our team and our players are at this point."
The Utes are coming off one of their most successful seasons in school history in 2008, going 26-6 overall and appearing in the NCAA Sweet 16. The Utes won their final 14 matches in Mountain West Conference competition and tallied a 14-2 mark in league play to take the MWC title.
